This page shows a deck that was remodeled from the older wooden railings to one with cable. Homeowner and contractor spent a lot of time with the detail and learning how the cable might look. You can see the results. The flow down the stairs is particularly interesting and very smooth. The color of the wood framing and the almost invisible cable blend in well in this application. Your application will have concerns particular to your location with some similar to this project. The cable gives this job a very natural look and no glass to clean or bird strikes that you can have with clear glass.

We have set photos in a reduced size to fit two side by side. In most cases if they have a colored (usually blue, depends on your settings) border you can click on any photo to take you to a larger version to see more detail. The following photos show more of the same job. The cable is less maintenance and allows with breeze to flow easily with out any hotspots on the deck from the sun, but of course is less of a windbreak for those needing it. Glass and cable can be mixed on the same job if needed for possibly a windbreak for a hot tub area with the rest of the deck in cable for less maintenance and more air movement. Each application is a little different. The frame fits in well and the cable allows a great view of the surroundings. You can keep the squeegee in the closet, no glass to clean on this job.
