Cable railing done in with stainless posts and Ironwood (Ipey) top rail.

This was a recently installed cable railing system on Lake Washington in Seattle using side mounted stainless posts and a wooden top rail. The product fits the marine environment quite well. The look is simple yet elegant and could fit a variety of applications. We chose to oil the top rail to preserve it and enhance the natural color of the wood. The end result is as you see in the photos. Using some thin posts minimized the view blockage.

We have set photos in a reduced size to fit two side by side. In most cases if they have a colored (usually blue, depends on your settings) border you can click on any photo to take you to a larger version to see more detail. Use the "Back" button in the upper left of your screen to return to this page from the enlarged photo.
The links at the top or bottom will take you back to the Home Page or Cable Thumbnail page.

The following photos show more of the same job with enlargements as you might like to see some detail, but of course have longer down loading times. Notes appropriate for adjacent photos are mixed in with the photos.

Photo to the left shows how we do a corner allowing the cable to go on around without stopping. Properly done, it creates a smooth transition to the next portion of the deck.

The corner bracket shown below holds the wooden top rail 90 deg. corner very well and looks very normal in that setting. The photo the the right shows the 4 bolt bracket used in this case with the thin posts to make a solid connection to the beam under the fascia.

This photo shows how we handle most of the terminations for the cables using easy to use "Studs" on the cable. The gap between the post and wall is necessary to allow room for your hand and tools to tighten the cable. The top rail was installed beyond the post and almost to the wall making the end post look very normal, clean and simple.
