Spreaders used to help stabilize and position cable within railing system.

What is a spreader? In sailboat jargon it is a small horizontal cross member on the mast of a sailboat to keep the cables
in position to the left and right side of the mast. Port and Starboard to all landlubbers. We use the same idea in a vertical position
to assist in keeping the cables in position vertically so post center to center distance can be increased a little for a better view and
a possibly add little higher end look to the finished deck. Note that the sailboat to the right has two spreaders on the mast.
The cable feels very different as the support spacing increases so we try to keep that 4 ft. or under. That could be posts only or posts
with something smaller between them which we have labeled "Spreader" since we are in a boating area. Took these shots not far from our
shop with Mt. Rainier in the background looking to the southeast.
We have set photos in a reduced size to fit two side by side. In most cases if they have a colored (usually blue, depends on your
settings)border you can click on any photo to take you to a larger version to see more detail. Use the "Back" button in the upper
left of your screen to return to this page from the enlarged photo.
The links at the top or bottom will take you back to the Home Page or Cable Thumbnail page.

The spreader we use is polished stainless tubing 1"O.D.x .065 and the bases are cast and polished stainless. The O.D. of the base is
2-3/4". They can enhance the look of a new or remodeled deck, open up the view a little, help stabilize the top rail and of course keep
the cables in position vertically which is the primary purpose. Photo below shows two installations, one in a private gym and another
on an outside deck. Both applications look very nice and add to the overall look of the installation.
